Cletus Smith:    Cletus is a native Oklahoman. He graduated from Oklahoma City University in 1964 with a major in art. Since that time he has been a graphic designer, illustrator, an industrial designer, and a professional artist.

He recently retired as a professor of art from the University of Central Oklahoma, and currently works and teaches classes from his Oklahoma City Art Studio. He conducts lectures/demonstrations, workshops, and judges numerous art shows throughout the Southwest.

Cletus feels equally comfortable working in watercolor or oil. He says, “Although I like a wide variety of subjects, landscapes are my passion. They offer an unlimited choice of shapes, textures, and lighting with which to compose. I need to feel something about a subject. It can be the way the light falls, a collection of lights and darks, or a special feeling of atmosphere…maybe even a certain recollection of some time or place.”

Cletus has received numerous awards and recognitions. His work is included in the state of Oklahoma art collection. He is currently represented by galleries in New Mexico and Oklahoma.
